Closing my eyes, I answer, “You and I both know it’s been done for a while Conner.”

“I know. It’s hard for me. You know? I mean I really hoped we could work things out and get back to the way we were before and actually be together.”

I squeeze his hand. “I know. But we’re better off being friends who share two amazing little boys. Our chance came and went, and now we both need to move forward with our lives. With different people this time.”

Michelle Irwin has been many things in her life: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; a young girl willing to fight for the love of a vampire; and a time-travelling madman in a box. Yanking the door to the first floor open I scan the immediate area but see no sign of Kailee, I move slowly now due to my falling or no sliding down a flight of stairs. Finally spotting her in the common area where the hotel is serving breakfast for all the hotel guests. She’s sitting with a handful of other authors, all smiles and giggles.

Hardening my features I make my way over to her and stop once I’m at her table glaring down at her. After clearing my throat she finally looks up at me and I have the pleasure of watching her eyes widen slightly before she stands up and tells her friends bye. I don’t say a word as I follow her out of the room, and down the hall. I catch up to her quickly grabbing her by the elbow and lead her into the gym I look around quickly making sure its empty before pushing her up against the door as I lean into her body.

“Thank you for the bottle of water and pain killers,” I whisper as I press my forehead to hers.

“You’re welcome,” she whispers back as I feel her body relax.

I raise my left hand and cup her cheek as my right presses against her hip keeping her from moving. Slowly I tilt my head and attempt to press my lips to hers only to hit her cheek instead.

“Uh, I don’t think so. You hollered at me and cussed me out last night, then you told me to get on your dick and ride you,” she says as she shoves me in the chest.

Now I could do one of two things here. I could apologize and suck it up or I could continue being the asshole I am.
